How to Enjoy a Christian Marriage
In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, we see the approval of God’s Creation by his words, “It was good”. During each step of Creation ie. making heavenly bodies, land, sea, plants, animals; God says it is good, until we come to day six. On the sixth day, God created man but says, “It is not good that the man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18). The Bible is extremely clear on what Christian marriage is supposed to be like. God is the designer of the universe. In order to live a meaningful life, it is of uttermost importance that we follow the instruction manual given by God for a life of purpose.
1. Love, loyalty, respect & sacrifice
“For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her." -Ephesians 5:25
Christian marriage is compared to the relationship between the church and Jesus. A husband should treat his wife the way Jesus treats His people ie. with unconditional love, unfailing loyalty, respect and sacrifice. The Bible is very clear on the roles of a husband and wife. A woman must trust her husband and care for him. A man must protect, provide and be willing to give up his life for his wife just like Jesus gave up His life for us. Both must serve each other till death.
2. Say goodbye to plan B
“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." -Mark 10:9
When entering a Christian marriage it’s important to remember that there is no “return policy” only “repair policy”. So choose your partner wisely. Before marriage, it is important to talk to your partner and make sure that both of you are on the same page about divorce; it is not an option. Marriage is not easy. There will always be mistakes & problems, but what’s important is reconciling differences and working through the tough times. A common agreement on having no back door to escape is the foundation to a good marriage.
3. Importance of intimacy
“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” -Genesis 2:24
The Bible is very clear about the importance of sex within a Christain marriage. Sex within marriage is nothing to be ashamed of; after all God created sex. During intimacy, the Bible says that the husband and wife become one flesh literally. It is important to remember, that this act is extremely sacred, since it is also the union of spirits among spouses. It’s a renewal of your marriage vows. The love shared between a married couple leads to the gift of a child. It is also important to remember that a married couple should avoid living with their in-laws after marriage, since they are now a new family.
Marriage can really be an amazing experience if we follow the intentions of the Creator. Always encourage prayer time with your spouse and family. Prayer makes a marriage strong. Welcome Jesus into your marriage today to see the change in your life.
