7 Simple Truths From Psalm 107 To Overcome Depression
Have you ever felt like depression is taking over your ability to feel happy again? When darkness creeps in, keeping a gratitude journal can work wonders.
Being thankful for the things you have amid depression, is an excellent way to feel happy. Depression may linger, but it doesn’t have to define your life or where it goes from here.
Psalm 107 guides us on how to give thanks in the toughest times. Overcome depression today with these seven simple truths:
1. Gratitude for Grace
Psalm 107:2 says, “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy”
We are redeemed. Let’s give praise and thanks for God’s great gift of redemption!
2. Gratitude for Guidance
Psalm 107:7 - “And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.”
God gives us direction when we ask for it, he never leaves us to find the way on our own.
3. Gratitude for Goodness
Psalm 107:8 - “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”
God is good because that is just who he is. His goodness is good whether we can see it or not.
4. Gratitude for Freedom
Psalm 107:14 - “He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.”
God’s light will bring comfort in the midst of darkness. We can praise him as he reveals little rays of light.
5. Gratitude for New Life
Psalm 107:35 says, “He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into water springs.”
Give thanks to the waters of refreshment God is sending you in new ways. Give thanks for the sweet waters of mercy in your life that you can use to nourish yourself and your relationships right now.
6. Gratitude for Generations
Psalm 107:38 says, “He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.”
God has blessed you with a number of people in your life. These may not be your blood-relatives, but they people who love and support your unconditionally. Give praise to God for those people.
7. Gratitude for Graciousness
Psalm 107:43 says, “Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.”
God’s grace and loving kindness is immeasurable. When we give praise and thanks to God, we can see more clearly who he is and what he has done for us.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. In times of depression, his mercy lasts forever. He will break your chains, calm your storms and bring you out of distress. He will fill your emptiness, save you from perils and forgive your sins. Take advice from Psalm 107 and overcome darkness with gratitude.
